OMG, Bing. Everyone in the LKG family LOVES this guy! I honestly, unfortunately, could not tell you how long Bing has been with us! He came in as an adorable little kitten during the pandemic.
Bing is a big boy. Not fat. Big bones and fluffy/ The rescue says that he is likely part Maine Coon. I don't know. I just know he's laid back and beautiful . For me, a good afternoon is curling up on the couch with a book and Bing joining me. He has a soft purr when I pet him.
Okay, so Laura, Bung is a big beautiful boy with a nice personality and pedigree. Why hasn't he been adopted? Why is he still with you?
When Bing went for his neuter appointment, he went to a teaching facility. Instead of just spending an overnight, he spent a week. He didn't just get a neuter, he got a full physical work-up. And a diagnosis of testing positive for feline leukemia virus (FLV).
Once again, I was devastated. I didn't know what his diagnosis ,want exactly, and, to be honest, I still don't. At first, I didn't even bring Bing home. The rescue took him to their display at a local pet supply store. Then hope was that another family that already had a FLV+ cat needed a pal would see him and adopt him.
My husband and I spent most of the weekend in tears over Bing's diagnosis. Of missing him. My husband and Bing were buddies - that's buddy wouldn't have the life he envisioned and the unfairness of it was too much.
On Monday, I needed to pick something up from the pet supply store. I stopped in the cat room to check on Bing. He was lying in the litter box making sad mewing noises. My heart shattered and I called my husband in tears to ask if WE could adopt Bing and let him live whatever life he would have with us. Thankfully, I got the green light From both Tim and the rescue. The store staff knew me from adoption events and gave me the enclosure keys while I bought a new carrier. Bing came home with me that day.
So far (9/27/23), Bing is healthy. He's living his best life with us - snoozing on our bed, getting head scratches and being the most neutral guy in the house. Maybe our adopting him deprived another family living with an FLV+ cat from adopting a new pal. But I couldn't leave that store knowing how miserable he was. I couldn't take the risk of him being there and not being adopted. I think it worked out for the best. I love that big guy!
