Jake's Intro, clear label

My husband was certain that our family was complete and our house was full after we adopted Cash and Trip in the fall of 2022. In fact, our adoption of "the boys" also ended our fostering career. I missed having kittens running around the house, though. Still do, truth be told. Kittens just have a way of helping you to smile and laugh your way through just about anything. But I was determined to keep my promise. 

Our son, Quinn, though, had not made that promise. And he regularly asked for a dog. I was trying to hold him off until time and age inevitably decreased my cat posse. One afternoon, I was mindlessly scrolling through Facebook and saw a post from the rescue we had fostered for. There were three puppies - two boys and a girl - who had the most expressive eyes I had seen since my son was born. I kind of sighed and scrolled on. 

But that evening Tim showed me a meme online of a dog. And that dog had the same expressive eyes as the litter the rescue had. Well, the door was open, right? I told Tim, "Well, if you think he's beautiful, check these guys out!" I showed him the Facebook post and watched my husband melt. In no time, we were reaching out to the rescue and were in contact with the puppies' foster mom regarding Buddy. He was the puppy whose eyes made my husband melt. 

By the time we met with the foster mom to meet the puppies, I had drawn this image of Buddy from one of the pictures she had posted. And we had already started calling him Jake. She didn't even need to bring Biscuit, as we had initially planned for her to do. We brought Buddy - now Jake - home with us!
