Portrait of Baby Ben

 Ben is absolutely MY cat. He wasn't our family's first foster, but he was our first foster fail. I saw Ben on a Facebook post of the rescue I work with. A kind lady had found him stuck between two fences and took him in until she could take him to a shelter on Monday. 

She went to a local pet supply store and was asking the employees to help her select the supplies she would need. Fortunately, my friend Margo was there for an adoption event and spared the woman quite an expense for the weekend - she welcomed the tiny, MAYBE three-week-old fluff ball to the rescue family. 

Margo took him home and got him stable, calling him Keeper, because he was so darn cute! I knew I had to be his foster mom. Later that week, I dropped my latest bunch of fosters off for their spay and neuter days and picked Keeper up. When we got home, my son names him Ben. 

From almost the beginning, we thought we had the perfect permanent home lined up for him. We held off on taking Ben to adoption events, waiting for his intended family to let us know he was ready to pick him up. Until they realized that it wouldn't work out for them. By then, Ben was 8 or 9 months old and still following me around the house and coming when I called his name. Sp Margo's name was incredibly prophetic. He's Ben, and he's my Keeper.
